Today I had my first meeting with my Mentor, I spent two hours with him. We visited Uptown Market which is the business that my mentor Ghaidan Alhubaishy and his family own. Its located in San Francisco on Ellis Street,Uptown Market was bought in 1994 by Ghaidans father and since then its been theirs for 20 years. For my first day, he showed me around the store giving me a chance to become familiar with the layout and know how things are organized. We discussed a few things that are important to run a successful store. For example obtaining the right licenses, finding the right location is very important, as well as checking inventory and keeping track of money. He explained to me the duties and responsibilities that are expected of me, he then demonstrated what he does on the daily basis. For example he checks his inventory every other day keeping track of what he's selling the most and what he's not selling. We didn't have enough time to do much because of our busy schedules. Over all I was familiar with the store, it was pretty interesting learning a piece of what I'll probably get into and I'm very excited for our next meeting.
